Alright, so you got yourself one of them fancy long-haired dogs, huh? Fluffy and pretty, but Lord, they can bark up a storm! Drives ya nuts, I tell ya. So, you’re lookin’ for one of them bark collars, eh? Well, lemme tell ya what I know, seein’ as I’ve had my share of dogs, though none of ’em were as fancy as yours, I reckon.

First off, you gotta think about that fur. All that hair, it can get tangled and matted somethin’ fierce. Don’t want no collar makin’ it worse. Them regular collars, they ain’t gonna cut it. You need somethin’ smooth, somethin’ that won’t pull and tug. I heard tell of them rolled leather collars, like a smooth rope, kinda. Or those padded nylon ones. Soft and comfy, like a good pillow, I guess. That’s what they say, anyways.
Now, when it comes to stoppin’ the barkin’, well, there’s all sorts of collars. Some just vibrate, like a little buzz on the neck. Some spray somethin’, like a little squirt in the face. And then there’s them electric ones. Zaps ’em a little, I guess. Folks say those electric ones work the best, real effective they say, like 98%, maybe 99%. But I don’t know, seems a bit harsh to me. But hey, if nothin’ else works, and that dog’s barkin’ is drivin’ you to the loony bin, well, you gotta do what you gotta do.
- Vibration collars: Buzz, buzz, buzz. Might work, might not.
- Spray collars: A little squirt, might surprise ’em.
- Electric collars: ZAP! Supposed to be the best, but…
Now, if you go for the electric kind, they say you gotta make sure them little pokey things on the inside, they gotta touch the skin. With all that fur, that can be a problem. Some folks say you might even have to shave a little patch of fur to make it work. Imagine that! Shavin’ your fancy dog! But I guess if it stops the barkin’, it’s worth it. You gotta decide that for yourself.
And make sure that collar fits right! Too tight and it’ll choke the poor thing, too loose and it won’t do nothin’. And check it regular, make sure it ain’t rubbin’ raw or nothin’. Dogs, they can’t tell ya when somethin’s wrong, so you gotta be their eyes and ears, ya know?
I heard there’s these experts, dog experts, they say. They test all sorts of collars, big ones, small ones, all kinds. They say there’s some good brands out there. Pet Resolve, that’s one I heard of. They got collars for big dogs and small dogs, and I guess long-haired ones too. But there’s lots of others. You gotta do your homework, I guess. Read the reviews, see what other folks are sayin’. Don’t just buy the first thing you see.
So, there ya have it. That’s all I know about bark collars for long-haired dogs. It ain’t much, but it’s somethin’. You gotta find somethin’ that’s comfy for your dog, somethin’ that’ll stop the barkin’, and somethin’ that won’t break the bank, I reckon. Good luck to ya, and may your days be filled with less barkin’ and more peace and quiet!
And remember, a happy dog is a quiet dog, mostly. So give ’em lots of love and attention, and maybe they won’t bark so much. But if they do, well, you got that collar, ain’t ya? Just be kind, that’s all I’m sayin’. Just be kind.
