Alright, so I’ve got this dog, a real sweetheart, but the little guy just can’t stop chewing on everything in sight. My shoes, the furniture, even the walls sometimes! I was at my wit’s end, seriously. I tried everything, or so I thought. Then, I stumbled upon this idea of making a homemade bitter spray to deter him. Figured it was worth a shot, right?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed a spray bottle. Found an old one under the sink, thankfully. Then came the fun part – mixing the ingredients. I didn’t want anything too harsh, so I decided to go with a simple vinegar and water solution.
Mixing it Up
- I grabbed some regular white vinegar from the pantry.
- Started with a mix of 1 part vinegar to 8 parts water. That seemed like a good starting point.
- Poured it into the spray bottle. I did this in my kitchen, near the sink, to avoid making a mess.
Testing it Out
Now came the real test. I lightly sprayed a bit on a corner of the sofa, one of his favorite chewing spots. Waited a few minutes and then called him over. He sniffed it, gave it a little lick, and… made a funny face! He did not like it! You should have seen him.
Adjusting the Mix
He still went back to it a couple of times, though, so I figured the mixture needed to be a bit stronger. I added a little more vinegar, making it a bit more concentrated. I kept doing this until I saw him leave it alone.
Success
And guess what? It’s working! He hasn’t touched the sofa since. I’ve also sprayed it on my shoes and a few other problem areas, and so far, so good. He just sniffs, turns his nose up, and walks away. It is pretty funny to see.
I’m so relieved I found this solution. It’s cheap, it’s easy, and most importantly, it’s safe for my furry friend. Plus, my furniture is finally safe! If you’re having the same problem, you should totally give this a try. It might just be the answer you’re looking for! I am so happy I did it!
