Well, look at this, 40lb wild bird seed. That’s a whole lotta bird food, ain’t it? You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy stuff. Birds just ate whatever they could find, I guess. But times change, and now folks are buying all sorts of things for them birdies.

This big bag, it says 40 pounds. That’s heavy! Guess it’s good for folks with lots of birds coming around. Or maybe they just don’t wanna go to the store all the time. I get that. My old bones ain’t what they used to be, and walking to the store, well, it ain’t fun anymore.
So, what’s in this here bird seed anyway? I see lots of little bits and pieces. Some black ones, some stripey ones, some tiny little round things. They say the black ones are sunflower seeds. Birds love them, apparently. Sunflower seeds are good for them, make ‘em fat and happy. The little round ones, they call ‘em millet. Sparrows, they like those. Never seen a sparrow up close though. They’re too quick for me.
- Black oil sunflower seeds – good for all kinds of birds.
- White proso millet seeds – sparrows like these little fellas.
- And some other stuff – who knows what all’s in there!
Now, you gotta put this seed in somethin’, right? A bird feeder. You can get all kinds of those too. Some hang, some stand on the ground. I saw one at the neighbor’s place that looks like a little house. Fancy! But you know what? The birds, they don’t care if it’s fancy or not. They just want the food. Give ‘em some grub, and they’ll come. That’s all there is to it.
Putting out bird seed, it’s a good thing to do. Helps the birds, you know. Specially in the winter, when it’s cold and there ain’t much food around. They need all the help they can get. And it’s nice to see ‘em flitting around, chirping and singing. Makes the place feel a bit livelier. I like to watch them from my window, specially on a sunny day. It’s peaceful.
But there’s one thing you gotta watch out for – squirrels! Them critters are sneaky. They love bird seed just as much as the birds do. And they’ll do anything to get it. I saw one jump from a tree onto a feeder once, scared the bejeebers outta me. They’ll empty a whole feeder in no time if you let ‘em. So you gotta get a squirrel-proof feeder, or put it somewhere they can’t reach. Good luck with that though, them squirrels, they’re smart.
And another thing, this bird seed, it don’t last forever. You gotta keep it dry, see. If it gets wet, it’ll go bad. Moldy and stuff. And birds, they don’t wanna eat that. Who would? So, keep it in a dry place. A bucket with a lid, or a shed, or somethin’ like that. And don’t buy too much at once, unless you got a whole lotta birds. The bag says this stuff stays good for six to twelve months. That’s a long time, if you ask me. But I guess some folks, they got a lot of birds.
So, there you have it. 40 pounds of wild bird seed. It’s a lot of food for them little fellas. Bird watching is a nice hobby, keeps you company and these little guys are fun to look at. Fill up your feeders, keep ‘em clean, and enjoy the show. The birds, they’ll appreciate it. And you know what? It’ll make you feel good too. Giving back a little, that’s always a good thing. And that’s what matters. Just like feedin’ them chirpin’ creatures makes the whole world a bit brighter.
Anyways, gotta go now, my tea’s gettin’ cold. You take care now, and remember to feed the birds! They’ll thank you for it, in their own little way.
