Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to upgrade my birds’ living situation for a while now. They’ve been in a decent-sized cage, but I wanted something where they could really stretch their wings, you know? So, after hemming and hawing and reading a ton of reviews, I finally pulled the trigger on the A&E Cage Company Double Flight Bird Cage.

Setting up Shop
First off, let me tell you, this thing is massive! When the package arrived, I was like, “Whoa, did I accidentally order a cage for a condor?” But hey, more room for the little guys to zoom around, right? I cleared out a good chunk of space in my living room—had to move a whole bookshelf, no joke—and got to work.
Unboxing and Assembly
Unboxing was, uh, an experience. Lots of cardboard and styrofoam. I swear I was finding styrofoam bits in my hair for days. But everything was packed pretty well, no damage to any of the parts, so that was good. The instructions were…well, they were instructions. Not the most detailed I’ve ever seen, but I managed to figure it out. Definitely a two-person job, though. I roped my partner into helping, and we got it all put together in about two hours, with a few breaks to double-check which bar went where.
- Unboxed all the parts, checked for damage (none!)
- Sorted the bars, trays, and accessories
- Followed the instructions (mostly) and assembled the frame
- Attached the side panels and the roof
- Installed the perches, feeders, and water dishes
Moving In
Once it was all set up, it was time for the big move. I had two budgies, and they were a little freaked out by the whole ordeal, as you might expect. I placed them carefully into their new palace. At first, they just huddled on one of the perches, looking around like, “What is this sorcery?” But it didn’t take long for them to start exploring. They were zipping back and forth, checking out all the different levels and perches. It was pretty awesome to see. And such a good way to make them feel at home.
Living the High Life
It’s been a few weeks now, and my birds are absolutely loving their new digs. They have so much more energy, and they seem way happier overall. I’ve added a bunch of toys and things to keep them entertained, and there’s still plenty of room for them to fly around. The cage itself is pretty sturdy, and the bar spacing is perfect—no escapees! The multiple doors make it easy to access for cleaning, feeding, and interacting with the birds.
Final Thoughts
Honestly, I’m super happy with this purchase. It was a bit of an investment, and putting it together was a bit of a workout, but seeing how much my birds are enjoying it makes it all worth it. I really feel like I’ve done right by them, giving them a space where they can truly thrive. If you’re on the fence about getting a bigger cage for your feathered friends, I’d say go for it. Just make sure you have enough space—this thing is no joke size-wise!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch my birds do their aerial acrobatics. It’s way more entertaining than anything on TV.
