Okay, so, I’ve always been fascinated by birds, especially the smart ones. And African Greys? They’re like the Einsteins of the bird world. I’ve been thinking about getting one for years, and I finally decided to take the plunge. I’m in Los Angeles, so I figured there must be a bunch of places to find these amazing parrots around here, right?

First, I started to google “African Grey for sale Los Angeles”. I found there are a lot of information, some are about the price, some are about the local shops, some are about the caresheet.
Then, I dug around online, checking out different breeders and pet stores. I looked at so many pictures and videos of these birds. I even watched some of those talking parrot videos – mind-blowing stuff. Some listings say that the price goes from 500 to 4000 dollars. The price is depended on lots of facts, such as their age, and if they are tame enough.
I made a list of places to check out. One was called “Fumi’s Tropical Fish” – sounds strange to find a parrot in a fish shop, but hey, I was curious. Another one was “Birds Love US.” Their website had tons of info about African Greys. It mentioned that they have large exotic parrots, that’s cool. I also found “Canoga Discount Birds”, “Parrots Naturally”, and “El Quetzal” on my list. Then I called each shop, and asked if they have African Grey, how much they are, and if I can take a visit. Most of them are friendly.
I spent a whole weekend driving around to see these birds in person. It was pretty cool seeing them up close, but also kind of sad to see them in cages. I talked to the shop owners, asked a ton of questions about their care and how they were raised. Most of them are very nice, but some are not that friendly. They answered my questions and showed me around.
I ended up going back to “Birds Love US” to meet with them a second time. It was a tough call. But I got a good vibe from them, and they seemed to really care about their birds, but their prices were a bit higher. They also provide caresheet and other stuff such as food and cage. Finally I paid about 3000 dollars for my African Grey.
Finally, I picked out a young African Grey. He’s still a baby, all fluffy and adorable. He kept tilting his head and looking at me with those intelligent eyes. The shop owner said that the bird is tame, doesn’t bite, and can even talk. He’s got this cute little habit of mimicking sounds, and I’ve already started teaching him some words. It’s pretty amazing how fast he picks things up.
Bringing him home was a big moment. I set up his cage, made sure he had food and water, and just let him settle in. I know there is lots of things to take care of a parrot, such as the food, the cage, and its health. But I already love this bird, and I will take good care of it.
Having an African Grey is a big commitment, but it’s been so rewarding already. It’s like having a little feathered companion who’s always up for a chat or a cuddle. And the best part? He’s always there to greet me when I get home, with a whistle or a “Hello!”
