So, I’ve been meaning to jazz up my parakeets’ living situation, right? I mean, they’re fun and all, but their cage was looking pretty bare. I decided to get them some cool accessories. First off, I went and got a bunch of toys. I’m talking swings, ladders, and these foraging toys that are supposed to keep them busy.

I found this one toy, a Planet Pleasures Pineapple foraging toy, it just seemed perfect! They get to play and it apparently taps into their natural bird instincts or something. I also grabbed some of those exploring toys with different textures and stuff like bells, perches, and even little balls. They seem to dig those, making all sorts of noise and moving around.
- Added some perches of different sizes and materials.
- Got them a stainless steel bell toy that they won’t shut up with.
- Picked up some cage liners, made things way easier to clean. Just some simple paper and cardboard stuff.
Oh, and I tried making the bottom of the cage more comfy with aspen shavings. I did read to avoid cedar and pine shavings, said they’re bad for birds.
I also switched up their food situation. Threw in some fruits and veggies like grapes, apples, sweet potatoes, and even some mango. They go crazy for those! And I got them some Wild Harvest bird seed mix – figured it’d be good for them.
Overall, I think it was a success.
They’re way more active now, chirping and playing all day. The cage looks lively, and I feel good knowing they’re having a better time. I’m not an expert but, like, you can’t put a price on a happy bird!
Definitely recommend spicing up your parakeet’s life if you have one. It’s rewarding, I’m telling you.
