Hey there, y’all! Let’s talk about this 50 lb outdoor bird seed, alright? I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I know a thing or two ’bout feedin’ them birds. Been doin’ it for years, ya know?

First off, you gotta figure out what kinda birds you wanna see in your yard. Seems like there’s a different seed for every bird, just like folks have their favorite foods. Now, if you want all sorts of birds, like them pretty grosbeaks, sparrows, juncos, and even them bossy jays and blackbirds, then a platform feeder is the way to go.
But lemme tell ya, them squirrels, they’re a real pain. They love that birdseed just as much as the birds do, maybe even more! So you gotta be prepared for them critters tryin’ to steal all the grub. Maybe get one of them squirrel-proof feeders, if you can. I ain’t never had much luck with them myself, them squirrels is too smart for their own good, I tell ya.
- Big seeds ain’t good for the little birds. Like them robins and wrens, they can’t handle them big ol’ kernels of corn or dried peas. And you know what? Them big bully pigeons, they love that stuff. So stick to the small stuff, like millet, if you wanna see them little fellas flittin’ around.
- Sunflower seeds, now them are popular. Seems like most birds like ’em. You got the black oil sunflower seeds, them are good for all kinds of birds, even them fancy cardinals and woodpeckers. And then there’s the striped sunflower seeds, them are bigger, so the little birds might have a hard time with them.
- Nyjer seeds, them are tiny little black seeds. They’re good for them finches, them little yellow birds that sing so pretty. But you gotta have a special feeder for them nyjer seeds, ’cause they’re so small they’ll just fall right out of a regular feeder.
- And then there’s safflower seeds. Them are good too, and the squirrels, they don’t seem to like ’em as much as the other seeds. That’s a plus in my book!
Now, I ain’t one to waste nothin’. So sometimes, I just mix up whatever I got lyin’ around. Peanut scraps, dried fruit, leftover sunflower seeds from when I’m bakin’ or snackin’. Just make sure it’s safe for the birds to eat, ya hear? Don’t go givin’ ’em nothin’ salty or sugary, that ain’t good for ’em.
Wagner’s bird seed, I hear that’s a good one. Folks say it attracts all sorts of birds. They got this one called “Gourmet Nut N’ Fruit,” sounds fancy, don’t it? And another one called “Greatest Variety Blend.” I guess that means it’s got a little bit of everything in it. That’s probably a good choice if you don’t know what kind of birds you got around your place.
There’s this other stuff too, called “Wild Bird Food Select.” Says it’s got black oil sunflower seeds, nyjer seeds, and other grains that ain’t been messed with, you know, non-GMO stuff. And it comes in a 50 lb bag, that’s a whole lotta birdseed! That’s what we talkin’ about ain’t it? The 50 lb outdoor bird seed. That oughta last you a good long while, unless you got a whole army of birds comin’ to your yard, or them pesky squirrels gettin’ into it.
So there ya have it, just a little bit of what I know about birdseed. Ain’t nothin’ to it, really. Just get yourself a good 50 lb outdoor bird seed, fill up your feeders, and watch them birds come a-flyin’. It’s a real joy, I tell ya, sittin’ on the porch and watchin’ them little fellas eat and sing. Makes a body feel good, it does. And you know what? Them birds are just as happy for a free meal as I am to give it to ‘em. So go on now, get yourself some birdseed and enjoy the show.
Now, I gotta go chase them squirrels outta my garden. Them critters are always up to no good, I swear. But that’s just part of livin’ in the country, I guess. You take the good with the bad, and you keep on feedin’ them birds, ’cause it’s a good thing to do.
And one last thing – remember to keep that bird seed dry. Wet seeds ain’t good for nothin’, they just get all moldy and gross. So if your feeder gets rained on, go out there and dump it out, put in some fresh stuff. Them birds will thank ya for it.
