Alright, let’s talk about them bird cages, the 18×18 ones. You know, the ones folks get for their little birdies. I seen a bunch of ‘em, and I got a thing or two to say about what’s good and what ain’t.

First off, what size bird you got? Don’t go crammin’ no big ol’ parrot in a tiny cage. That ain’t right. It’s like you livin’ in a closet, you wouldn’t like it, and neither do them birds. If your bird’s wings spread out real wide, you gotta get somethin’ bigger. Simple as that. Some folks say the cage gotta be one and a half times bigger than the bird’s wingspan, at least. Sounds about right to me.
Now, about what these cages are made of. I seen some flimsy ones, and they ain’t worth a dime. You want somethin’ strong, somethin’ that’ll last. Iron, that’s the ticket. And make sure it ain’t gonna rust up on ya. Some of them cages, they got that black finish, they say it keeps the rust away. Maybe so, maybe not. But you want somethin’ sturdy, that’s for sure.
- Size matters: Bigger is always better for your bird. They need room to flap and play.
- Material: Iron is good. Make sure it’s strong and won’t rust.
- Doors and locks: Gotta make sure them doors close tight, so your bird don’t go flyin’ off. And them locks, they gotta be bird-proof. Smart little critters, they are.
I seen some cages with fancy scrollwork, all them curly-q things. Pretty, I guess, but that ain’t what matters. What matters is if the bird’s happy in there. Can they move around? Can they climb? Can they play? That’s what you gotta ask yourself.
And don’t forget the perches. Birds need somethin’ to sit on, you know. Different sizes, different shapes, that’s good. Lets ‘em stretch their little feet. And put some toys in there too. Keeps ‘em busy, keeps ‘em happy. Just like little kids, they need somethin’ to play with.
Now, about gettin’ your bird used to a new cage. That can be tricky. Birds, they like what they know. They get used to their old cage, and they don’t wanna move. So, what I do is put the new cage right next to the old one. Let ‘em get used to seein’ it. And put some food and water in the new cage, maybe some treats. They’ll figure it out eventually.
And one more thing, clean that cage! Nobody wants to live in a dirty house, and birds ain’t no different. Clean it regular, get rid of the old food, the poop, all that stuff. Your bird will thank ya for it.
So, if you’re lookin’ for an 18×18 bird cage, or any cage for that matter, keep these things in mind. Get the right size, get somethin’ strong, and make sure your bird’s happy in there. That’s all there is to it. Don’t overthink it. Just use your common sense.
Price? Well, I seen ‘em go for all sorts of prices. Some are cheap, some are expensive. You get what you pay for, I guess. But don’t go breakin’ the bank. Just find somethin’ that’s good and sturdy, and your bird will be just fine.
And remember, a happy bird is a singin’ bird. And ain’t nothin’ better than hearin’ a happy bird singin’ in the mornin’. Makes you feel good all day long.
So, there you have it. My two cents on them 18×18 bird cages. Hope it helps ya out some. Now, go on and find a good home for your little birdie.
