Hey there, y’all! Let’s gab a bit about this 50 lbs wild bird seed, alright? You know, the stuff them little birdies go crazy for. I ain’t no expert, mind you, just a regular person who likes seein’ them fellers flappin’ around and eatin’ good.

First off, what kinda seed we talkin’ about? I seen bags that say “Striped Sunflower Bird Seed.” That’s a good one, real popular with the birds. Them sunflower seeds, they got that nice oily meat inside that the birdies love. A 50 lbs bag of that, that’ll last ya a good while, unless you got a whole army of birds comin’ to your yard, ha! Then you might need two!
- Sunflower seeds – Them striped ones are good, but there’s also somethin’ called “black oil sunflower seeds.” Folks say them are even better, ’cause they got thinner shells and more oil. Good for all kinds of birds, them cardinals and woodpeckers and such.
- Nyjer seed – Now, this one’s tiny, like little black specks. It’s mostly for them finches, little yellow birds that like to hang upside down on them special feeders. I ain’t never used much of it myself, but folks seem to like it.
- Mixes – Then you got them mixes, with all sorts of stuff in ’em. Like, “Wild Bird Food Select,” they call it. Might have sunflower seeds, nyjer seeds, millet, cracked corn… all kinds of things. That’s good if you wanna feed a whole bunch of different birds, see who comes ’round. Just make sure it ain’t got too much filler, you know? Some of them bags, they put in a lot of junk the birds don’t even eat, just to make it cheaper.
Where do you get this bird seed, you ask? Well, I seen it at the store, big bags sittin’ right there. And you can get it online too, I hear. They even ship it right to your door, ain’t that somethin’? Says stuff like “Fast shipping” and “Free shipping on orders over $49.” That’s handy if you don’t wanna lug a big heavy bag around.
Now, how long does this seed last? I ain’t never really thought about it too much. Just keep it in a dry place, I guess. Keep the critters and bugs out of it too. I heard somewhere it lasts for 6 to 12 months, somethin’ like that. But if it gets wet or moldy, you gotta throw it out, don’t wanna make them birdies sick.
How to choose good bird seed? Well, like I said, I ain’t no expert. But I heard some folks say look for “premium quality seed,” that means it’s good stuff, not a bunch of trash. And some folks say “non-GMO” is important, but I don’t know too much about that. I guess it means it ain’t been messed with too much, natural like. And some folks like to buy from certain brands, like “Audubon Society” or somethin’. They say them brands are trustworthy, you get what you pay for.
But if you’re lookin’ for cheap, I heard tell you can get “chicken scratch.” That’s what they feed chickens, but birds like it too. It’s got millet and cracked corn and stuff, real cheap. You can find it at a farm store or feed store, they say. That’s a good way to go if you got a lot of birds to feed and don’t wanna spend a fortune.
So, there ya have it, a little bit of my thinkin’ on this 50 lbs wild bird seed. It ain’t rocket science, you know? Just get some good seed, put it in your feeders, and watch them birdies come flyin’. It’s a nice thing to do, gives them little fellers somethin’ to eat, and it brightens up your yard too. And don’t forget to give them some water too, especially in the hot weather. They get thirsty just like us.
One more thing, if you wanna get them birds real happy, get a fancy feeder. You know, one of them with the little perches and roofs and all. Makes ’em feel right at home. And keep them feeders clean, too. Nobody wants to eat off a dirty plate, not even a bird. Alright, I think I’ve said enough. Y’all go on now, get yourself some bird seed and enjoy them birdies!
