Alright, so, I’ve been meaning to share my little adventure with these tiny, adorable fish called Corydoras habrosus, or as some folks like to call ’em, Salt and Pepper Corys. I got into this whole thing because, well, I wanted to add some life to my aquarium, and these little guys seemed perfect.

First things first, I started looking around for where I could get my hands on these critters. I wanted to go straight to the breeders because, you know, it just feels better knowing where your fish come from and that they’ve been taken care of right from the start. Plus, there’s always that worry about the fish being all stressed out from shipping and handling.
I eventually found a few places online that had them in stock. It was a bit of a toss-up, but I ended up going with a breeder that had some pretty good reviews. It’s always a gamble buying living things online, but what can you do? These Corys, they’re not exactly the kind of fish you find at any old pet store.
So, I placed my order for a nice little group of them. They say these fish are social butterflies, and you should keep at least six of them together. They’re tiny, too. We’re talking about an inch, maybe an inch and a half at most. I was setting up a 20-gallon tank, which I figured would be more than enough room for these little guys to zoom around and do their thing.
When they arrived, it was like Christmas morning. I was super careful getting them acclimated to their new home. You can’t just dump them in the tank; you gotta let them get used to the water, the temperature, all that jazz. It took a bit of patience, but it’s worth it to see them swimming around, happy as can be.
Watching them is a real treat. They’re always on the move, sifting through the sand, looking for scraps. And they’re peaceful little dudes, too. I’ve got them in a tank with some other community fish, and there’s never any drama. They just do their own thing, and they even wink at you sometimes, seriously.
- They’re social: Don’t even think about getting just one or two. They need their buddies.
- They’re tiny: Seriously, they’re like the size of your thumbnail.
- They’re peaceful: They get along with everyone. Just don’t put them with anything that might see them as a snack.
- They’re active: Always on the move. It’s fun to watch.
A Few Things I Learned Along the Way:
All in all, getting these Corydoras habrosus was a great decision. They’ve added so much life to my aquarium, and they’re just a joy to watch. If you’re thinking about getting some, I’d say go for it. Just do your homework, find a good breeder, and give them a good home. You won’t regret it.
