Alright, listen up, y’all. We’re gonna talk about washin’ them dogs, but not in no fancy way. We’re buildin’ somethin’ – a hose dog washer, they call it. Easy peasy, even an old woman like me can figure it out, so you surely can too.

First off, we gotta get ourselves some stuff. Don’t go buyin’ no highfalutin’ things, just the basics. You need some wood, the kinda you find at the lumber store, not that flimsy stuff. Get some good, strong wood, ya hear? And some pipes, the plastic kind is fine, ain’t gotta be no fancy copper. And a hose, a good long one, unless you wanna be draggin’ your dog all over the yard. Oh, and screws, lots of screws. Can’t have nothin’ fallin’ apart on ya.
Buildin’ the Frame
Now, this frame thing, it’s like a box, see? But not a closed-up box. More like a square with legs. You gotta measure and cut the wood. Don’t gotta be perfect, just close enough. I ain’t never been good with measurin’, always eyeballin’ it, but you try to be a bit more precise, alright? Cut four pieces for the top, make it big enough for your dog to stand in. Then four more for the legs, however high you want it. My old back ain’t what it used to be, so I’d make it a bit higher. Screw them legs onto the top square, make sure it’s sturdy. Wiggle it a bit, if it wobbles, you didn’t screw it tight enough. Go back and tighten them screws!
Plumbin’ the Pipes
This here’s the tricky part, but don’t you fret. We ain’t buildin’ no rocket ship. Get them plastic pipes and fittings. You need a piece that goes up the leg, then one that goes across the top, like a sideways “L”. And then you need somethin’ to spray the water, like a shower head, but not too fancy. Them plastic ones work just fine. Screw it all together tight, you don’t want no leaks. And make sure the water goes where you want it. Don’t want to be sprayin’ yourself in the face now, do ya?
- Get the right pipes and fittings.
- Connect them tight, no leaks allowed!
- Make sure the water sprays where you want it.
Hookin’ up the Hose
This is the easy part. Just screw that hose onto the pipe. Make sure it’s tight, you don’t want it poppin’ off when you turn the water on. And make sure the other end of the hose is hooked up to your water faucet. Now, some folks, they got fancy faucets with hot and cold water. If you got that, good for you. If not, cold water will do just fine. Dogs ain’t picky, not like some folks I know.
Testin’ it Out
Before you go throwin’ your dog in there, you gotta test it out. Turn the water on slow at first, see if there’s any leaks. If it’s all good, then turn it up a bit, see how the spray is. You don’t want it too strong, it’ll scare the poor critter. And make sure the water ain’t too cold, especially if it’s a chilly day. You don’t want your dog catchin’ a cold.
Washing the Dog

Now, the moment of truth. Get your dog, and coax him into that washer thing. Some dogs love water, some don’t. If yours don’t like it, well, good luck to ya. Talk to ‘em nice, maybe give ‘em a treat. Once they’re in, turn the water on and start washin’. Get ‘em good and soapy, then rinse ‘em off real good. Make sure there’s no soap left, it’ll make ‘em itchy. And that’s it! You got yourself a clean dog and a homemade hose dog washer.
Keepin’ it Clean
Now, you gotta keep this thing clean, alright? After you wash your dog, rinse the whole thing down, get rid of all that dog hair and dirt. And every once in a while, give it a good scrubbin’. You take care of your things, they’ll last longer, that’s what my mama always said.
So there you have it, a DIY dog wash station, plain and simple. No need for fancy stuff, just a little bit of elbow grease and some common sense. You and your dog will be happy, trust me on that.
Final Thoughts
This here hose dog washer ain’t nothin’ fancy, but it gets the job done. And that’s all that matters, right? It saves your back, keeps your dog clean, and keeps your house from smellin’ like a wet dog. So go on, get yourself to the lumber store and get started. You can do it!
And remember, keepin’ your dog clean is important, keeps them healthy and happy. And a happy dog makes for a happy home, ain’t that the truth?
More Tips
- You can add a little platform inside for smaller dogs.

- Always supervise your dog while washing.
Now go on and build yourself that hose dog washer. Your dog (and your nose) will thank you for it.
