Okay, guys, let’s talk about something that’s been bugging me and my furry friend, Max. That’s dog ear infections. You know how it is, your dog starts shaking their head, scratching at their ears like crazy, and you just know something’s up. Max has those big floppy ears, and let me tell you, they’re like magnets for all sorts of gunk.

So, the first thing I noticed was Max scratching more than usual. I took a look, and yep, his ears were red, a little smelly, and just looked uncomfortable. Now, I’m no vet, but I’ve been around dogs enough to know that these are signs of a possible ear infection. I got on the internet and started reading up on what to do. Found out that keeping the ears clean is super important, especially for dogs like Max with those floppy ears.
I decided to try an ear powder. After reading a bunch of stuff online, I found out that any decent ear powder would do the trick. No need to splurge on the expensive stuff, they said. I grabbed a bottle from the local pet store, and it was time to get down to business.
The Cleaning Process
- First, I got Max comfortable. Lots of pets, treats, the whole nine yards. You gotta make it a positive experience, right?
- Next, I used a dog ear cleaner I had on hand. Squeezed a bit into his ear, massaged the base of his ear canal like the instructions said. I used a cotton ball to wipe away any of that nasty discharge at the entrance. I did this routine every day for about five days.
- Then came the ear powder. I put a good pinch of the powder into each ear, and used my finger to work it down into the canal. Kinda like dusting a cake, but way less appetizing.
- Then, the waiting game. It said to wait five or ten minutes. I used this time to clip Max’s toenails. Multitasking, you know?
- After the wait, it was time to pluck the hair out of his ears. Yep, you heard that right. It sounds weird, but it helps keep things clean in there. I made sure to get all the way down.
- Max got to shake his head after, which he seemed to enjoy. I left the extra powder in there, just like the instructions said.
I’ve been doing this monthly, and it’s been working like a charm. Max’s ears are looking so much better, and he’s way less itchy. It’s such a relief to see him comfortable again. Also got some info that said Thornit powder, which has Iodoform, is a good remedy for ear mite and can help with the symptoms. I might give that a try next time.
Honestly, it’s not rocket science, but it does take a bit of effort. But hey, our furry friends are worth it, right? Just remember to be gentle, make it a positive experience, and always check with your vet if you’re not sure about something. Max and I are proof that with a little care and some ear powder, you can tackle those pesky ear infections and keep your pup happy and healthy!
