Okay, so, I’ve got this dog, right? A beautiful golden retriever, but lately, her red fur hasn’t been looking so hot. It’s kinda dull and faded. I did some digging around online, and it seemed like a red shampoo might do the trick. So, I decided to give it a shot.

I went to the pet store and found a bunch of options, but I ended up grabbing this Chris Christensen Red on Red Shampoo. The bottle says it’s an “optic intensifying treatment within a shampoo” so that sounded about right. Plus the reviews online were pretty good, so I figured it was worth a try. You can get it from just about any drugstore or beauty supply store.
First thing I did was get my dog all wet in the tub. I made sure the water was a good temperature, you know, not too hot, not too cold. Just like Goldilocks. Then I started working the red shampoo into her fur.
Now, this stuff is pretty thick, so I had to use a decent amount to get a good lather going. I really massaged it in there, making sure to get all the way down to her skin. The instructions said to leave it on for a few minutes, so I did that, probably around 5 minutes.
- Rinsed her off thoroughly after that, making sure to get all the shampoo out. That part took a while, I won’t lie.
- After she was all rinsed, I towel-dried her as best as I could. She’s not a huge fan of the blow dryer, so we usually just air dry after that.
And you know what? It actually worked! Her fur is way more vibrant now. It’s like that red color just popped right back. I’m definitely going to keep using this stuff. I used it almost 3 times this week and it turned out good! Oh and it said on the bottle that you can mix it with other color shampoos from the same brand, but I am not trying that for now. Maybe later.
If you’ve got a dog with red fur that’s looking a little lackluster, I’d say it’s worth giving this red shampoo a try. Just make sure you follow the directions and rinse, rinse, rinse!
Important Note
It is also said that this shampoo is not for dogs with white or light-colored coats, maybe I’ll try that next time!
