Okay, so today I wanted to talk about something I’ve been trying out with my furry friend – charcoal dog shampoo. Yeah, you heard that right, charcoal!

It all started a few weeks ago. My dog, Buddy, a big fluffy Golden Retriever, was starting to get a little, shall we say, ripe? Plus, his coat was looking a bit dull. I’d been using a regular dog shampoo, one of those general-purpose ones, you know, that just kind of cleans and that’s it. But I felt like Buddy needed something more. Something that could really tackle that doggy odor and give his coat a good shine.
So, I started looking around, and I came across this thing called “activated charcoal dog shampoo.” It sounded interesting, and after reading a bit about it, I decided to give it a shot. I mean, I use charcoal in my face wash, so why not for Buddy, right?
I found a few brands online, but they were a bit pricey. Then, I remembered seeing some pet stuff at the local store, so I went there hoping to find something similar but more budget-friendly. Luckily, they had one, so I grabbed it.
The first bath with the charcoal shampoo was interesting.
- The shampoo was black, which was a bit weird at first, but I guess that’s the charcoal.
- It lathered up pretty well, which was good because Buddy has a lot of fur.
- The smell was… different. Not bad, just not what I was used to with dog shampoos. Kind of earthy, I guess.
Anyway, I rinsed him off, dried him with a towel, and then let him do his usual post-bath zoomies around the house. After he calmed down, I checked out his coat. Honestly, I was pretty impressed. It looked cleaner and shinier than usual. And the best part? That doggy odor was gone! The shampoo seemed to give him a deep clean.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’ve used the charcoal shampoo a couple more times. I think it does a good job. I’m not saying it’s a miracle worker, but it definitely seems to be better than the regular shampoo I was using before, and Buddy’s fur looks great!.
I’ve also noticed that his skin seems less itchy. I don’t know if that’s because of the charcoal or not, but he’s definitely scratching less. Maybe the charcoal is good for his skin, too? I mean, there are products on the market that contain oatmeal or aloe vera that can help with those problems. Who knows?
My takeaways from this little experiment:
- Charcoal dog shampoo is worth a try if you’re looking for something to give your dog’s coat a good clean and shine.
- It might be especially helpful if your dog has a bit of an odor problem, or it needs a deep clean.
- Don’t be scared of the black color! It washes out just fine.
So, yeah, that’s my experience with charcoal dog shampoo. It’s not something I would’ve thought of before, but I’m glad I tried it. Buddy seems happy, his coat looks great, and he smells a whole lot better. I call that a win!
I’ll keep using it and see how it goes in the long run. Maybe I’ll try some different brands too. If any of you have tried charcoal shampoo on your dogs, let me know how it worked for you! I’m always up for trying new things and comparing notes.
