Okay, so I’ve been messing around with my dog’s diet lately. We’re talking about switching him to raw food, and I decided to start with bison.

First things first, I had to figure out how much of this stuff to give him. I read online that you’re supposed to feed your dog about 2-3% of their body weight in raw food each day. My dog’s a big boy, about 70 pounds, so that means I need to give him about 1.4 to 2.1 pounds of food daily.
So, I went out and bought a bunch of ground bison meat. I also grabbed some organs like liver and kidney, cause I saw somewhere that dogs need that stuff too, about 10% of organ meats in raw diet. And bones! They need about 10% edible bone. I also picked up some veggies and fruits, I heard they need about 10% of those. I’m going to mix it all up to make sure he gets a balanced meal.
I started by giving him a little bit of the bison mix in the morning. I mixed the 80% ground bison with 10% organ meats and 10% crushed bones. He seemed to like it, which is good. Then, in the evening, I gave him another portion. I made sure to spread out the meals so he wouldn’t get an upset stomach.
I’ve been doing this for a few days now, and so far, so good. He seems to have more energy, and his poops are looking better, if you know what I mean. Less smelly, too!
I’m still learning about this whole raw feeding thing, but I’m feeling pretty good about it. It’s a bit of work, measuring out the food and everything, but it seems like it’s worth it.
I’m going to keep an eye on him and see how he does. If he keeps doing well, I might try adding other meats into the mix, like chicken or beef. But for now, we’re sticking with bison.
Oh, and one more thing. I did read that some people give their dogs fruits and vegetables with raw food. I might try that too, but I’ll probably start with just a little bit to see how he reacts. Maybe some mashed sweet potato or some chopped-up carrots. I don’t know, I’ll experiment a bit.
Anyways, that’s my experience with feeding my dog raw bison. It’s been interesting, and I’m excited to see how it goes in the long run.
