Okay, so I’ve been thinking about switching up my dog’s diet lately, and I’ve heard some buzz about raw salmon. I thought, “Why not give it a shot?” So, here’s how my little experiment went.

First off, I did a bit of reading online, just to make sure I wasn’t going to accidentally do something dumb. Turns out, there’s a whole bunch of stuff about whether raw salmon is okay for dogs. Some folks are all for it, saying it’s super healthy and all that. Others are a bit more cautious, talking about potential risks and stuff.
Getting Started
I decided to take the plunge and bought some fresh salmon from the grocery store. I made sure it was, you know, actual salmon and not some weird imitation. My first step was to freeze the salmon solid. I read somewhere that freezing it first can help with some of the risks people were talking about.
Preparing the Salmon
Once it was frozen, I thawed it out in the fridge. Then, I chopped it up into little pieces, just the right size for my furry buddy. I didn’t add any seasonings or anything, just kept it plain and simple.
Introducing It to My Dog
Now, I didn’t just dump a whole bunch of raw salmon in my dog’s bowl. I started small, giving him just a tiny piece to see how he’d react. He sniffed it, looked at me like I was crazy, but then gobbled it up. Success!
Observing the Effects
Over the next few days, I kept a close eye on him. I watched for any weird poop or if he started acting funny. Luckily, everything seemed normal. He actually seemed to have more energy, and his coat started looking a bit shinier.
Increasing the Amount
Since he seemed to be doing okay, I gradually increased the amount of raw salmon I gave him. I mixed it in with his regular food, just to make sure he was still getting all his other nutrients.
The Results
- More Energy: He definitely seemed more playful and energetic.
- Shiny Coat: His fur became noticeably softer and shinier.
- Happy Dog: Overall, he just seemed happier and healthier.
So, that’s my story about feeding my dog raw salmon. It worked out pretty well for us. He loves it, and I’m happy with the results. But, like I said, I did my homework first and took it slow. Every dog is different, so what worked for mine might not work for yours. Just do your research, talk to your vet if you’re unsure, and pay attention to your dog’s reaction. It might be worth a try, but always be cautious and responsible.
And yeah, this whole thing was a bit of a learning curve for me too. I’m no dog food expert, just a regular guy trying to do right by his furry friend. So, take my experience for what it’s worth, just one guy’s story. I just hope sharing my experience can help others.
