Okay, so, I was scrolling through my phone the other day, trying to figure out what to feed my picky dog, Buster. He’s got a sensitive stomach, and honestly, finding the right food has been a real headache. Then I started thinking, why not just try to create a zero-brand dog food? By “zero,” I mean homemade, all-natural, and with no artificial ingredients. That’s how I started this little project.

First, I did some digging online. I read about what dogs need in their diet, like protein, you know? Apparently, high levels of protein are good for their muscles and bones. Also, I found out that a lot of dogs have allergies or sensitivities to stuff like wheat, soy, and corn. So my goal was to create a food that’s free from all that junk.
I made a list of ingredients I wanted to use. I decided to go with some good quality chicken, as the main protein source. Then, I added some sweet potatoes, carrots, and green beans. All fresh, of course. I also threw in some brown rice because I know that it is a good source of energy for dogs.
- Cooked the chicken until it was nice and tender.
- Steamed the veggies until they were soft but not mushy.
- Mixed everything together with the cooked brown rice.
I portioned the food into little containers and stored them in the fridge. It was actually pretty easy to make a big batch that lasted a few days. And the best part? Buster loved it! He gobbled it up without any hesitation, and I haven’t seen any signs of stomach issues since he started eating it.
So, my homemade “zero brand” dog food experiment turned out to be a success! It takes a bit of time and effort, but seeing Buster happy and healthy makes it all worth it. I’m still doing it, and my dog is so energetic right now. If you have a dog with similar needs, maybe give this a try. It is much easier than I thought at first, to be honest. And just remember that you can replace some of the ingredients I used with something you know your dog likes, such as beef, fish or even lamb.
Anyways, I’m pretty stoked about how this turned out. I’m still not sure if I can keep the pace of making the food every week, but as long as I can, I will continue to do so. I might even start experimenting with different recipes. Who knows, maybe I’ll become a dog food chef one day! Haha, just kidding. But yeah, that’s my little story about my “zero brand” dog food adventure.
