Alright, let’s gab about these dog kennels, the ones they call 5 x 10, you know? Folks are always fussin’ about what’s right for their dog, and it gets confusing, I tell ya.

Now, them smarty-pants at the animal place, they say a dog needs a good bit of space, like, 100 square feet or somethin’. That’s like a 10 by 10 space, or maybe somethin’ long and skinny like 8 by 12, or even 6 by 16. Makes sense, I guess. Big dog needs room to stretch its legs, just like us when we get outta bed in the mornin’.
You go and stick a dog in a tiny kennel, it’ll get all fidgety and nervous. Too big, and maybe the critter won’t feel safe. It’s like a kid in a big, empty house – scared, ya know? So, you gotta find that “just right” size, like Goldilocks and her porridge.
- Measure your dog, they say. From the nose to the tail, like you’re measurin’ a fish you caught.
- Think about how tall your dog is, too. Don’t want ‘em bumpin’ their head all the time.
- And the weight, of course. A little bitty dog don’t need a giant kennel, that’s for sure.
So, this 5 by 10 kennel… is it big enough? Well, that’s 50 square feet, right? Not quite the 100 them city folks recommend, but maybe it’ll do for a smaller dog. Like them little yappy things, or a dog that ain’t too energetic.
If you got a big ol’ hound, though, or one of them playful ones that likes to run around, a 5 by 10 might be too small. It’d be like tryin’ to fit a grown man in a baby’s crib, just won’t work.
Now, I seen folks with all sorts of kennels. Some are just metal fences, some got roofs, some are even fancy like little houses. You gotta think about where you’re puttin’ it, too. Is it gonna be rainin’ all the time? Then you need a roof, for sure. Is it gonna be hot as blazes? Gotta have some shade, or that dog’ll be pantin’ like a steam engine.
And don’t forget, a kennel ain’t just a place to lock up your dog and forget about ‘em. It’s their safe space, their little home outside. You gotta make it comfy for ‘em. Put in a blanket, some toys, maybe a water bowl. Treat ‘em right, and they’ll be happy as clams.
You can find these kennels all over, I hear. Even on that internet thing the youngsters are always talkin’ about. They got everything on there, they say. Just be careful, though, some of them prices are higher than a kite! Shop around, compare prices, that’s what I always say.
So, is a 5 x 10 dog kennel the right one for you? Well, it depends. Depends on your dog, depends on your space, depends on your wallet. Just use your common sense, and you’ll figure it out. And if you’re still not sure, ask someone who knows about dogs. Don’t just guess, it’s not fair to the animal.
Remember, a happy dog is a good dog. Give ‘em a good home, a good kennel, and lots of love, and they’ll be your best friend for life. That’s all there is to it.
Now I gotta go feed the chickens.
