Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again with another DIY project. This time, I’m tackling something for my furry friend – a folding travel dog bed. If you’re like me and your pup is your adventure buddy, you know the struggle of finding a good, portable bed for them. So, I decided to just make one myself!

First things first, I needed to figure out what material to use. I remembered reading somewhere that cotton canvas is great for dog beds. It’s tough, can handle all the scratching and chewing, and it’s machine washable. That’s a big win, especially with my dog who loves getting dirty. But, I also thought, “What if my dog doesn’t like canvas?” So I grabbed a few other things from around the house – an old blanket, some old jeans, just to see what he might prefer. After all, it’s all about making sure he’s comfy, right?
Next up, the design. I wanted something that I could easily fold up and carry around. I’ve seen a few travel beds online that either fold or lay flat, and some even have handles. That got me thinking, “Why not combine those ideas?” I sketched out a simple square design, big enough for my dog to sprawl out on – he’s a bit of a drama king when he sleeps, all legs everywhere. But I also made sure it could be folded into a compact size, kind of like a sleeping bag.
Putting it all together
- Step 1: I cut the canvas into the size I wanted. I used a waterproof version, just in case of any accidents or wet ground.
- Step 2: I added some padding. This was a bit of trial and error. I tried using some old cushioning I had, but it was too bulky. Ended up using a thinner, but still comfy, foam layer.
- Step 3: Sewed it all up! This was probably the trickiest part, especially since I’m not exactly a pro with a sewing machine. But hey, it got done. I even managed to add a couple of handles for easy carrying.
The moment of truth – would my dog actually use it? I laid it out, and he just walked right over, sniffed it, and plopped down. Success! He seemed to love it, and even took a little nap right there. It was a good feeling, seeing him all cozy on something I made. Plus, it folds up nicely, so it’s perfect for our little trips.
This whole thing was a fun little project. Took some time and a bit of figuring things out, but it was totally worth it. Now, my pup has a comfy spot to rest, no matter where we go. If you’ve got a furry travel buddy, I definitely recommend giving this a try. It’s a great way to make sure they’re comfortable and happy on your adventures together.
