Okay, so the other day, I decided my dog needed his own little entrance. You know, so he can come and go as he pleases without me having to get up every five minutes. I have this wooden screen door, and I thought, “Why not put a doggie door in it?” Seemed like a good idea at the time. Turns out, it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.
First things first, I gathered all my tools. Nothing fancy, just the basics: a screwdriver, a drill, some screws, and of course, the doggie door itself. I picked up one of those simple flap ones from the pet store. Oh, and a measuring tape, can’t forget that. You don’t want to end up with a crooked door, right?
Next, I measured out where the door was going to go. I made sure it was low enough for my dog to step through comfortably but not so low that it would mess up the screen door’s structure. Once I had the spot marked, I took a deep breath and started cutting. Yeah, cutting into my perfectly good screen door. It felt a bit wrong, but hey, anything for our furry friends, right?

With the hole in place, I positioned the doggie door frame against it. This part was a little tricky. I had to make sure it was snug against the screen so there wouldn’t be any gaps for bugs to get in. Then, I started screwing in the frame, starting with the bottom screws on each side. I tightened them just enough to hold the frame in place.
After that, I inserted the actual flap into the frame. It slid in pretty easily, and once it was in, I could tell it was going to work just fine. It held firmly in place, which was a relief. Finally, I put in the rest of the screws, securing the frame completely. I made sure everything was tight and that the flap could swing open and close without any issues.

And that was it! My dog now has his very own entrance. He took to it pretty quickly, too. I guess he appreciated not having to wait for me to open the door for him. It’s been a few days now, and so far, so good. No more constant interruptions, and my dog seems happier. It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but it works, and that’s what matters. If you’re thinking about doing something similar, I’d say go for it. Just be prepared to cut into your door, and make sure you measure everything twice!
