So, the other day I decided it was time to change the filters on my AirDog. I’ve been meaning to swap out the regular fuel filter for a CAT filter for a while now, just to see what all the fuss is about. Everybody seems to be using them and talking about how good they are.

First, I went online to see what folks were using. Turns out, the 1R-0751 is a popular choice for the AirDog. Also I saw some are using 1R-0750. I guess CAT filters are known for being super efficient at catching tiny particles, which is supposed to be way better for the fuel system. I think it is like 2 micron rating. Sounds impressive, right?
I ordered the CAT filter online, because why not, it is easier, and when it arrived, I started the swap. I got my tools ready and started loosening the old filter on my AirDog II. And let me tell you, this thing started dumping diesel everywhere! It was a mess. I was not prepared for that at all. I guess I didn’t really know what I was doing there.
- Get the right CAT filter (either 1R-0751 or 1R-0750 seemed to be the go-to options).
- Loosen the old AirDog filter.
- Be prepared for some diesel spillage!
- Install the new CAT filter.
The Real Challenge: Leaks After Installation
After I finally got the new CAT filter on, I thought I was golden. But guess what? It started leaking! Not a lot, but enough to be annoying. I think it might be the o-ring, maybe it needs to be replaced. I’m still trying to figure that out. It’s always something, isn’t it?
Why Bother with CAT Filters Anyway?
So, why go through all this trouble? From what I understand, these CAT filters are designed to protect important parts of your engine, like the injectors and stuff, and that they are good in catching harmful particles. Apparently, they are supposed to keep things running smoother and more efficiently. I read somewhere that AirDog filters are specifically designed for different diesel engines, so it’s important to pick the right one for your truck. I guess the same goes for CAT filters, they’re made to keep your engine in good shape, and maintain system cleanliness.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with trying to put a CAT filter on my AirDog. It didn’t go exactly as planned, but hey, that’s how you learn, right? I’ll keep you guys updated on the leak situation.
