My grandson, he come back from the city last week. He bring me a whole bunch of things, and you know what? He also bring his dog, a big fella named Max. That dog, he just love to chew, chew, chew! So my grandson, he also bring a toy for Max. He say it’s a donut dog toy. I say, what in tarnation is that?
This donut dog toy, it’s round, like a donut, you see. But it ain’t for eatin’, no sir! It’s for Max to chew on. It’s made of some kind of tough stuff. My grandson, he say it’s safe for Max. He say it won’t hurt Max if he chew it and swallow some.
You see that Max, he always carry that donut dog toy around, he chew, he play, and play with it all day long. He seem to like it a lot. But some toys, they ain’t so good for dogs, and I learn a lot from that city boy.
Some toys, they got that fluffy stuffin’ inside. My grandson, he call it “Poly-Fil.” He say that stuff no good for dogs. If a dog eat it, it can get stuck inside them. And that ain’t good, no sir! That can make a dog real sick. So, you gotta watch your dog when they play with toys. And when that stuffin’ start comin’ out, you gotta throw that toy away, you hear? That stuff is a choking hazard thing. Donut dog toys maybe not have that, so it is a good thing.
My grandson, he also say some toys made of “fleece.” He say that’s okay for dogs. It’s soft, and it won’t hurt ’em. And you can even wash it in the washin’ machine! Now ain’t that somethin’? But donut dog toys not made of that, it is some rubber thing.
- That Poly-Fil, no good!

- Gotta watch ’em close.
He also talk about other stuff that good for dogs to chew on, like rubber or some kinda hard plastic he call “nylon.” He say them toys from some company, Kong and Nylabone, are good. They tough, and they last a long time. I think the donut dog toy he bought is from that Kong, because it is tough.
You see, these toys, they keep dogs busy. They like to chew, and it keeps ’em from chewin’ on other things, like your shoes or your furniture! And that’s a good thing, ’cause I don’t want Max chewin’ on my good chair!
So, if you got a dog, you gotta get ’em some toys. But you gotta be careful what kind you get. You don’t want no toys that can hurt your dog. And you don’t want no toys that gonna fall apart the first time they chew on ’em. That donut dog toy seem good, but I don’t know.
- Get ’em toys, but be careful!
- No toys that can hurt ’em.
- Gotta get tough toys.
My grandson also say that round toy, like that donut dog toy, it can be dangerous. He say it can get stuck in a dog’s throat. I don’t know about that. Max, he seem to be doin’ just fine with it. He play, he happy, he chew.
But I guess you gotta be careful. You always gotta be careful with dogs and toys. You never know what they gonna do. They like to chew, and they like to swallow things. And sometimes, they swallow things they shouldn’t.
So, if you gonna get your dog a donut dog toy, or any kind of toy, you gotta watch ’em. You gotta make sure they don’t get hurt. And you gotta make sure they don’t swallow anythin’ they shouldn’t. Especially if it is stuffed, that is dangerous.

That’s what I learned from my grandson. He know a lot about dogs, even though he live in the city. He read a lot of books, I reckon. And he always tellin’ me things about dogs. Things I never knew before. I always think donut dog toy is not good, but it seems like it is good.
Like I said, Max, he love that donut dog toy. He play with it all day long. And he seem happy. And that’s what matters, ain’t it? A happy dog is a good dog. And a good dog need a good toy. Just make sure it’s a safe toy, you hear?
So next time you go to the store to buy a toy for your dog, remember what I told you. Look for tough toys made of good stuff and keep them safe. Think about that donut dog toy, maybe it is a good choice. You want your dog to be happy and healthy, so pick a good toy!
