Okay, let’s talk about dog toys, specifically this “lucky dog toy” thing I messed around with. I wanted to make something for my furry friend, you know? Something to keep him busy and happy.

First, I started with an idea. Just a simple, tough toy that could withstand some serious chewing. My dog’s a beast when it comes to toys, absolutely destroys them in minutes. So, durability was key.
Materials and Design
I gathered some materials. I’d heard good things about Goughnuts, West Paw, and Black Kongs toys, so I tried to understand what made them so tough. It seemed like they use really solid rubber. I found a similar heavy-duty rubber material at a local store. I also grabbed some rope because my dog loves tug-of-war.
Then I got to work on the design. I decided to go with a barbell shape, something easy for my dog to grip. I also added a few holes to put treats in, to make it more interesting.
The Making Process
Cutting the rubber was a bit of a workout! It was thick and tough, but I eventually managed to shape it into a decent-looking barbell. After that, I drilled the holes for the treats and the rope. This took some effort to ensure it is strong and not be easily broken.
I threaded the rope through the barbell, making sure it was secure. I knotted the ends really tight, so my dog wouldn’t be able to pull it out easily.
Testing and Results
- I gave the finished toy to my dog, and he went nuts for it!
- He chewed on it for hours, trying to get the treats out.
- We even played some tug-of-war, and the toy held up great.
It’s been a few weeks now, and the toy is still in one piece! I’m pretty proud of myself, to be honest. It’s not perfect, but it’s a solid, homemade toy that my dog loves. And that’s all that really matters, right? I might try making other shapes and adding different features in the future. Maybe something interactive, like that Feeko Tug-of-War toy. Or maybe a chew toy that’s good for his teeth, like the Nylabone Barbell. We’ll see. For now, I’m just happy to have found a way to keep my furry buddy entertained and happy.
