Okay, so today I’m gonna whip up some “Belly Bites” dog treats. I saw this term floating around online, and figured, why not give it a shot? My pup’s been getting a bit bored with the usual store-bought stuff, so I thought I’d try making these limited ingredient diets, some homemade goodies. No fancy ingredients here, just stuff that’s good for my dog and hopefully tastes good too.

First, I gathered all the ingredients. I’m going with a simple recipe—just some duck, and legumes. I always try to keep it natural, you know? I picked these because they are grain-free and I’ve heard good things about them from other dog owners. I also grabbed some natural stuff to help bind the treats together, no artificial junk for my furry friend.
Next, I prepped the ingredients. I cooked the duck until it was nice and tender, then chopped it up into small, bite-sized pieces. Same deal with the legumes, cook them up and smash them a bit. I want these treats to be easy for my dog to eat.
- Cook duck until tender
- Chop duck into small pieces
- Cook and smash legumes
- Mix everything together
Then came the fun part—mixing everything together. I got my hands dirty and combined the duck, legumes, and the binder in a big bowl. I squished and squeezed until it all came together like a weird, meaty dough. It wasn’t pretty, but hey, it’s for the dog, right?
After that, I rolled out the mixture onto a baking sheet, about half an inch thick. You could use cookie cutters here if you’re feeling fancy, but I just used a knife to cut them into little squares. No need for anything extra here. My dog doesn’t care what shape it is.
Finally, I popped the baking sheet into the oven. I baked them at a low temperature for a while to dry them out, rather than really cook them. It took longer than I expected, but I wanted to make sure they were just right. Once they were done, I let them cool completely. These are kind of like those dental chews, but homemade, so they should be a bit chewy.
The Moment of Truth
Once they were cool, it was time for the taste test. I gave one to my dog, and he went nuts for it! He gobbled it down in seconds and was begging for more. I guess these “Belly Bites” are a hit! I’m pretty happy with how they turned out, and my dog seems to love them too. It’s a good feeling to know exactly what’s going into his treats. Plus, it was kind of fun to make them! I might try some other flavors next time, maybe some sweet potato or pumpkin. We’ll see!
