Alright, so I’ve been seeing these “pigs in a blanket” dog treats all over the internet, and I figured, why not give them a try? My furry friend deserves a little homemade goodness, right? Plus, they looked pretty simple to make, so I rolled up my sleeves and got to work.

First, I gathered all the ingredients. Now, I’m not much of a baker, so I kept it super basic. Just some hot dogs, which I already had, and some of that pre-made dough in a can. You know, the kind you pop open and it scares you a little? Yeah, that stuff.
Getting Started
I preheated the oven like the instructions said, around 375 degrees Fahrenheit. While that was heating up, I took the hot dogs out of the package and patted them dry with some paper towels. Gotta get rid of that extra moisture, you know?
Then came the fun part. I opened the can of dough and carefully unrolled it onto the counter. It was kind of sticky, but I managed. I cut the dough into little triangles, just like I saw in those fancy cooking videos. They weren’t perfect triangles, but hey, who’s judging?
Wrapping It Up
Next, I placed a hot dog at the wide end of each triangle and started rolling. Some of the hot dogs were a little too long, so I just snipped off the ends. No big deal. I rolled them all up, making sure the dough was wrapped all the way around. They actually started to look like those pigs in a blanket things you see at parties!
- Place hot dogs on dough triangles.
- Roll them up.
- Trim any excess dough.
Baking Time
I placed my little “pigs” on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. I didn’t want them sticking, that’s for sure. Then, into the oven they went. The instructions said to bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until they were golden brown. I set a timer and waited. And waited some more.
The Final Product
Finally, the timer dinged! I pulled the baking sheet out of the oven, and wow, they actually looked pretty good! Golden brown and a little puffy. I let them cool for a few minutes because I didn’t want my pup burning his tongue.
Once they were cool enough, I gave one to my dog. He sniffed it for a second, then gobbled it right up! I think it’s safe to say he loved them. I even tried one myself, and you know what? Not bad! I might have to make these more often. They were a hit for sure. Easy, fun and a great treat for the dog. What a treat!
