So I thought it would be fun to do something special for my dog this holiday season. You know how much we love those candy canes? I figured, why not make a dog-friendly version for my furry best friend? That’s how I started this whole project to make a candy cane dog bone.

First, I had to find out what’s actually in those red and white treats we enjoy so much. Turns out, it’s mostly sugar, which isn’t great for dogs. Then I looked up what goes into regular dog treats, and that gave me some ideas. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t just tasty but also safe for my pup.
I gathered some simple stuff from my kitchen: peanut butter, carob powder (which is like a dog-safe chocolate), and coconut oil. No baking needed, which was a relief! I just melted the coconut oil in a bowl, and then mixed everything together. It was pretty easy, just a bit of stirring until it was all smooth.
- Melt the coconut oil
- Mix in the peanut butter and carob powder
- Stir it up real good!
Then came the fun part. I had these cute silicone molds shaped like hearts. I poured the mix into those and stuck them in the freezer. I had to wait for a bit, which was the hardest part, to be honest. I kept checking every few minutes, and finally, they were solid enough.
When I popped them out, they looked adorable, just like little heart-shaped treats! My dog went crazy for them, sniffing around and wagging his tail like mad. I gave him one, and he gobbled it up so fast. I guess it was a hit!
Making My Dog Happy
It felt great to make something special for my dog. Seeing him enjoy the candy cane dog bone made all the effort worthwhile. Plus, it was a fun little project to do during the holidays. I might even make it a tradition from now on, trying out different shapes and flavors. After all, our furry friends deserve some holiday cheer too, right?
