Hey everyone, it’s time for another one of my hands-on projects! Today I’m talking about making some lamb treats for our furry friends. Yeah, you heard that right – homemade goodies for the pups!

So, I started thinking, why not make some treats at home? I mean, we love our dogs, and we want them to have the best, right? Plus, I’ve been seeing a lot about lamb being a good protein source for dogs, especially for those with allergies. I’ve got a friend whose dog has some food sensitivities, and lamb seems to be a safe bet for her pup. It’s packed with protein, iron, amino acids, and even vitamin B12. Sounds pretty good, huh?
I did a little digging and found out that lamb has omega 3 and omega 6, which are important for brain development. That’s great news, especially for puppies. I don’t have a puppy myself, but I know a lot of you do, so I figured this was worth looking into.
I decided to go for it. First, I picked up some lamb from the local butcher. I got some regular cuts and, because I was feeling adventurous, some lamb heart too. I read that lamb hearts are full of protein and omega-3s, which are great for their coats.
Now, the fun part – making the treats! I cut the lamb into small, bite-sized pieces. I figured that would make them easier for the dogs to eat and also easier for me to handle during training. I laid them out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. I tried to make sure they weren’t touching each other so they’d dry evenly.
The Process
- Prepped the lamb: Trimmed the fat and cut it into small pieces.
- Arranged on baking sheet: Spread out the pieces, making sure they didn’t touch.
- Dehydrated: I used my oven at a low temperature. You can use dehydrator if you’ve got one.
- Waited it out: It took a few hours, but it’s important to let them dry completely.
- Cooled them down: Let them cool completely before giving them to the dogs.
I used my oven’s lowest setting and let the lamb pieces dehydrate for several hours. Some folks use a dehydrator, but I don’t have one, so the oven worked just fine. The waiting was the hardest part, I’m not gonna lie. But it was worth it!
Once they were all dried out and cooled down, it was time for the taste test. My dogs went crazy for them! They were a hit! It was so satisfying to see them enjoy something I made myself. And I felt good knowing exactly what was in their treats.
So, that’s my little adventure with making lamb treats for dogs. It was a bit of work, but honestly, seeing my dogs happy and knowing they’re getting some good nutrition made it all worthwhile. If you’re thinking about trying it, I say go for it! Your pups will thank you!
