Okay, so, I’ve always been into fish, right? Like, since I was a kid. My dad got me a little tank, and it just kind of went from there. I’ve had all sorts, but lately, I’ve been really wanting to get back into the bigger guys, the ones that have some real personality. That’s when I started thinking about Oscars. And not just any Oscars, I wanted to find some Electric Blue Oscars. Those guys are, you know, kind of the holy grail for a lot of fish people.

First thing I did, I hit up all the local fish stores. Walked in, talked to the folks behind the counters, you know, the usual. Some of them looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about Electric Blues. Like I’d asked for a unicorn or something. One guy was cool, though. He told me he could maybe order some, but it would take a while and be pretty expensive.
So, decided to try my luck online. Started browsing, just, you know, seeing what was out there. Found a bunch of places that had all kinds of Oscars, Reds, Albinos, Tigers, but not many Electric Blues. Saw some prices that were all over the place, too. Some were like $25, some were way up at $200. Crazy, right?
Kept looking. Found this one site that had a bunch of different live fish. They had some Malawi Blue Dolphins, and they looked pretty cool. So I was thinking about maybe getting those, but then I scrolled down a bit more, and boom! There they were, Electric Blue Oscars. They were out of stock, though. Major bummer. But there was a way to get an alert on the product page, so I signed up for that.
Few weeks went by, nothing. Then, one morning, I got an email. They were back in stock! I clicked on that link so fast. They were $140 for a 3.5 to 4-inch fish, which wasn’t cheap, but for an Electric Blue, that’s actually pretty good. Plus, free shipping. I thought about it for like two seconds, then I added two to my cart and checked out. Used some promo code I found online, and saved a few more bucks, too.
Now, the waiting. That’s the hardest part, right? Tracked the shipment like a hawk. Finally, they arrived. Opened the box, and man, they were even more beautiful in person. Acclimated them to the tank slowly, like you’re supposed to, and then released them. They explored their new home for a while, then settled in.
What I have achieved:
- Got my Electric Blue Oscars!
- Learned that they are not easy to find.
- Saved some money by shopping online and using a promo code.
- Successfully added two beautiful and healthy Electric Blue Oscars to my aquarium.
It’s been a few weeks now, and they’re doing great. They’re growing fast, and they’ve got tons of personality. Watching them swim around is just mesmerizing. Definitely worth the effort and the money. If you’re thinking about getting some Electric Blue Oscars, I say go for it. Just be prepared to do some searching, and maybe spend a little more than you would on other fish. But trust me, it’s worth it.
