Alright, let’s gab about plastic fish containers. Ya know, them things ya put fish in? I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I’ve seen a thing or two, and I can tell ya what’s what, the way I see it.

First off, why plastic? Well, it’s cheap, that’s for sure. And it don’t break easy, unlike them glass things. You drop a glass fish thingy, and bam – water and fish everywhere! Plastic, it just bounces around a bit, maybe spills a little water, but nothin’ major. So, yeah, plastic is good for folks like us who ain’t got money to throw around.
Now, there’s all sorts of plastic fish containers. You got yer plastic bags, them clear ones ya see at the fish store. They’re alright for bringin’ a new fish home, but don’t keep ’em in there for long, they need room to swim, ya know?
- Then you got buckets. Them are handy for movin’ fish around, like when you’re cleanin’ their…uh…fish house…thing.
- And there’s them big ol’ plastic tubs. Some folks call ’em storage bins, I think. Them are good if you got a bunch of fish, or if they’re big fellas.
But here’s the thing, not all plastic is the same, I hear. Some plastics are bad for the fish, they leak stuff into the water, makes the fish sick. You don’t want that, do ya? So you gotta look for the right kinda plastic. I heard somethin’ about “HDPE” plastic bein’ safe. It’s got a little number “2” on it, in that triangle thingy. So, look for that number, it means it’s probably okay for yer fish.
Now, how big a container ya need? Well, that depends on the fish, don’t it? A little goldfish don’t need as much room as a big ol’ catfish. I heard someone say you need a whole lotta water for eight fish, like a hundred gallons or somethin’. That sounds like a lot, but I guess fish like to swim around. And if you got them big sucker fish, the ones that stick to the glass, you need even more room, ’cause they get big.
Transportin’ fish is another thing. You gotta be careful, you don’t wanna jostle ’em around too much. Use a container that’s not too big, so they don’t slosh around too much. And don’t fill it all the way to the top, leave some air in there. And don’t leave ’em in there too long, get ’em to their new home quick.
Some folks use them plastic tanks, the ones they sell for water and stuff. They say it’s cheaper than buyin’ a real fish tank. But I don’t know, them tanks ain’t made for fish, are they? Maybe it’s okay, maybe it ain’t. You gotta do yer research, I guess. But if you’re gonna use somethin’ like that, make sure it’s strong, you don’t want it to leak and leave your fish high and dry.
Speaking of tanks, some people worry about keeping the water clean, especially if you have a lot of fish or use a big container. It’s like anything else, you gotta clean it. No one likes living in a dirty house, right? Fish is the same. So make sure you have a way to change the water regularly. I ain’t gonna tell you how to do it, there are a bunch of ways. Just make sure it gets done.
And another thing, if you’re gonna put a bunch of fish together in one container, make sure they get along. Some fish fight, ya know? Like people, I guess. So do a little homework, figure out which fish are friendly and which ones ain’t. You don’t want a fish war in yer container, that just ain’t right.
So, there ya have it, my two cents on plastic fish containers. They’re handy, they’re cheap, but ya gotta be smart about it. Get the right plastic, get the right size, and take care of yer fish, and they’ll be happy as clams…or happy as fish, I guess. And don’t forget to look for that number “2” on the plastic, it’s important! That way, you know you’re doin’ right by yer fishy friends.
And that’s all about there is to it. I told you all I know about these here plastic fish things, now you go on and figure out what you need for your own fishes. Just remember, keep them safe and happy, that’s what’s important.
