Man, today I wanna share something fun I did, it’s about making a wooden fish sign. Sounds simple, right? But it turned out to be a pretty cool little project.

So, it all started when I saw some cute fish signs on the internet. I thought, “Hey, I can totally make that!” I’m not an artist or anything, but I do enjoy a good DIY challenge. I grabbed a piece of wood from my garage, I think it was just an old shelf or something. First thing I did was sand it down. It was pretty rough, so I spent a good amount of time making it smooth.
Next, I sketched out a basic fish shape on the wood. I mean, it wasn’t perfect, but it looked like a fish, more or less. Then, I got to the fun part – painting! I used some old acrylic paints I had lying around. I went for a simple blue color for the body. After the blue dried, I added some details. I painted some scales, a little eye, and a cute smile. It started to look pretty good, if I do say so myself.
- Finding the Wood:
- Checked the garage for scrap wood.
- Found an old shelf, perfect size.
- Prepping the Wood:
- Sanded down the wood to make it smooth.
- Took some time, but it was worth it.
- Sketching and Painting:
- Drew a simple fish shape on the wood.
- Painted the body blue.
- Added details like scales, an eye, and a smile.
Once the paint was all dry, I thought it needed something more. I decided to write “Fish Stories Told Here” on it. It felt like it added some character, you know? I used a dark color for the letters so they would stand out against the blue.
Finishing Touches
After the lettering, I sealed the whole thing with a clear coat to protect the paint. I let it dry overnight, and the next day, I added a little hook on the back so I could hang it up. Now, it’s hanging right by my reading nook, and it makes me smile every time I see it. It’s not just a sign; it’s a reminder that even simple projects can bring a lot of joy. It also reminds me of those fish stories from my childhood, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it was a fun little project, and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out.
