Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole AirTag thing for my dog, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I heard someone say that AirTags weren’t really meant to be dog trackers, and yeah, I guess that’s true. They’re more for finding, you know, lost keys and stuff. But I figured, why not give it a shot? My dog, she’s a runner, and I worry about losing her.

First thing I did was grab an AirTag. They’re these little round things, pretty small and light, which is good. You don’t want something huge and heavy hanging off your dog’s collar, right? Then came the real challenge – figuring out how to attach it.
I looked at a bunch of different dog collars. There are tons out there, and some are even designed to hold an AirTag, which is pretty neat. I ended up picking one that seemed durable and had a secure spot for the AirTag. Price was a factor, too, of course. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on something that might not even work the way I wanted it to.
My Choice: Inflatable Collar
Now, here’s where I got a little creative. I remembered reading something about using an inflatable collar to keep dogs from chewing on themselves, especially if they have allergies or something. I thought, “Hmm, maybe this could work with the AirTag too.”
I got one of those inflatable collars, you know, the kind that looks like a donut? It turned out to be perfect. I could easily slip the AirTag into the pocket where the inflatable part goes. And the collar itself was comfy for my dog, which was a big plus.
Putting It All Together
- Step 1: Bought an AirTag.
- Step 2: Researched dog collars.
- Step 3: Decided on an inflatable collar.
- Step 4: Inserted the AirTag into the collar’s pocket.
- Step 5: Put the collar on my dog.
So, the AirTag was snug in the inflatable collar, and the collar was on my dog. It felt like a win! I tested it out by hiding around the house, and I could track my dog’s location on my phone. Pretty cool, huh?
Now, I know this isn’t some high-tech, super precise dog tracking system. And like I read somewhere, Apple says AirTags are for finding lost items, not really for tracking pets. But for me, it’s given me some peace of mind. Of course, nothing beats proper training to keep your dog from running off in the first place. But hey, this little AirTag setup feels like a good backup plan.
Every dog needs a collar anyway, to hold their leash and tags. My dog usually wears a regular collar for that stuff. But for walks in the park or when we’re somewhere new, I switch to the inflatable collar with the AirTag. It’s been working out pretty well so far. Just my little experiment, thought I’d share!
