Okay, so my dog, Buddy, he’s a good boy, but lately, he’s been scratching like crazy. It was getting pretty bad, like, he’d wake up in the middle of the night just to scratch. So, I started looking into ways to help him out. I mean, he was making me itch just watching him!

First thing I did was give him a bath. I found this shampoo that’s supposed to be good for itchy skin, with oatmeal and something else, can’t remember, but it smelled kinda nice. Buddy wasn’t thrilled about the bath, as usual, but he did seem a little less itchy afterward. But it didn’t last very long though.
Then, I remembered seeing somewhere that some foods can make dogs itchy. Buddy was eating some generic brand, so I thought maybe that was it. I went to the pet store and asked for foods that are good for skin. The lady there showed me some hypoallergenic stuff, and I also picked up some that had fish oil, ’cause I read that’s good for their coat.
While I was at the store, I also grabbed some of those dog treats that are supposed to help with itchy skin. I wasn’t sure if they’d work, but figured it couldn’t hurt to try.
I started giving Buddy the new food and the special treats. I made sure to follow the instructions on the bags, you know, so he wouldn’t get too much or too little. Oh, and I also tried putting a little bit of coconut oil on his fur, like directly on the spots he was scratching the most. I just rubbed a tiny bit in my hands and then petted him, focusing on those itchy areas. It seemed to soothe him a bit.
It took a little while, but I started to notice a difference. Buddy was definitely scratching less. He could sleep through the night, and so could I! He still scratches sometimes, like all dogs do, but it’s way less than before. Those treats also seem to help his tummy.
Here’s what I learned:
- Bathing with a special shampoo can help, but it’s not a cure-all.
- Changing his food to something hypoallergenic and with fatty acids made a big difference.
- Those special dog treats for itchy skin actually seem to work, at least for Buddy.
- A tiny bit of coconut oil can soothe itchy spots.
So yeah, if your dog’s itchy, don’t just ignore it. Try a few things and see what works. It might take some experimenting, but it’s worth it to see your furry friend feeling better.
