My dog’s been having some skin issues lately, so after a bit of looking around, I decided to give this chlorhexidine 4% dog shampoo a try. Here’s how it went down.

First off, I got my dog all wet. I’ve noticed that using cooler water seems to be more comfortable for him, especially since he’s got that skin irritation going on. So, cool water it was.
Next, I took a good amount of the shampoo and started working it into his fur. I made sure to really massage it down to his skin, because that’s where the problem is, right? I tried to be gentle but thorough. We got a pretty good lather going.
Now comes the waiting game. The instructions said to let it sit for 5-10 minutes, so I did just that. I kept an eye on him, made sure he didn’t try to lick it off or anything. It was a long 10 minutes, to be honest, but hey, gotta follow the instructions if you want it to work. The point is to keep the affected area clean.
- Wet the coat with cool water
- Apply shampoo and lather generously
- Wait for 5-10 minutes as the bottle says
- Rinse thoroughly
Key Steps I Followed:
After the time was up, I rinsed him off really well. I wanted to make sure all that medicated shampoo was gone. I’ve heard that rinsing is important, so I probably spent more time rinsing than scrubbing, just to be safe.
I’ve only used it a couple of times so far, but I think I’m starting to see some improvement. His skin doesn’t seem as red, and he’s not scratching as much.
Fingers crossed this stuff keeps working. Dealing with dog skin problems is never fun, but at least we seem to be on the right track now. I’ll probably keep using this shampoo once or twice a week, like the vet told me, and see how it goes. This will create an environment that supports wound healing. Will keep you all posted!
